Philanthropy and Community Activity
Anchor Agency has maintained a strong corporate culture of community service since it’s founding in 1960. Our company principals have set a strong example and encourage our staff to be actively involved in our communities. For example, Arthur Kapner, one of our founders, was the first person to be Chairman of the Board of the Albany Chamber of Commerce who was a “main street person”. Prior to Art all chairmen had come from the ranks of large corporations, banks, or utility companies. After Art’s passing, the re-named Albany-Colonie Chamber of Commerce created an annual award (The Art Kapner Spirit of the Chamber Award) in his honor. Marvin Freedman, also one of our founders, has served as Board Chair at St. Peter’s Hospital, the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region, the Home Health Aide Association of Northeastern NY (now part of Eddy). Fred Stemp our current Agency President is currently serving as Chairman of Cohoes Community Center. Steve Lobel, Vice President, is currently Chairman of the Board of the Albany Symphony Orchestra, past President of Albany Rotary and Tech Valley Healthy Kids, as well as past Chairman of Jewish Family Services of Northeastern NY. In addition the staff at Anchor have continually served on many Boards of local community organizations too numerous to list here.
In addition to significant time spent on community service, we dedicate a significant portion of our annual budget for charitable contributions. Since our client list includes many not-for-profit organizations, they receive top priority. We do not, however, limit our philanthropy to our clients and we provide support for charitable organizations to numerous to list.
Other activities include participation in walks for Juvenile Diabetes, cycling for MS, contributions to the Food Bank, and our Agency’s adoption of families that need help at Christmas time through a Program at Albany County Department of Social Services. These are just a few examples and the list could go on due to our core belief in the need to be good corporate citizens, supporting and helping to improve the quality of life in our region.
